director of funding & finance
there is not yet funding for this project. if we secure funding, then we will all get paid. if we do not, then the project will not happen. you will be part of the start-up team making the pink peacock possible on this side of the atlantic. the initial money we secure will go toward our startup costs, including wages.

are you tired of your institutional non-profit job? do you have strong skills in capitalism and want to use them for good?
you love making the pitch and hooking the sale. you have connections to donors and funding bodies who want to support our mission, and you think creatively about how to find funding from sources which may not be obvious. most importantly, you want to redistribute wealth from the rich to the poor, and you have the skills to do it.
this role is about monitoring, innovating, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the project. you will be working on a small team, alongside and equal to the director of operations and director of communications. we are anarchists: no bosses!
job responsibilities
fundraising (60%)
- grant finding and application writing
- find donors and nurture those relationships
- create and manage small donor campaigns
- development of future funding and income streams
finance (40%)
- budget, bookkeeping, and reporting
- manage relationships with suppliers
- manage donations and bank accounts
- pay bills and invoices
essential skills & qualities
- passionate about building community through food sharing
- considerable experience in non-profit fundraising
- proactively communicative: clear, straightforward, and able to discuss complex and emotional issues in good-faith without compromising your own integrity
- politically ambitious and pragmatic
- coalition-building ethos
- experience working in non-hierarchical organizing
- demonstrable understanding of the mechanisms of oppression and a commitment to liberation, systemically and personally
- impulse to solve problems through direct intervention
- well-connected in the trans, queer, jewish, pro-palestinian, anarchist, and/or yiddish worlds
- comfortable interacting with people in a variety of class settings
- comfortable being public-facing and representing the organization
- highly organized
- international and intergenerational outlook
- not afraid of human darkness
education is not necessarily relevant. we are more interested in finding someone with shared values, considerable relevant work experience, and strong connections to the communities we’re serving.
desirable skills & qualities
- senior level experience: director, management, and/or mentorship
- accounting certification and ability to do our taxes
- experience in social work, community advocacy, or similar
- proficiency in yiddish highly desirable
- skills in american sign language, spanish, russian, haitian creole, cantonese, mandarin, or other languages common in brooklyn also desirable
